Before the planning commission may act upon a request for a variance, it shall hold a public hearing. Notice of the public hearing shall be provided as prescribed by Chapter 18.190 TMC. The public hearing shall be held within 60 days from the date the application for variance is filed. The planning commission may, but shall not be required to, act upon the proposed variance at the meeting at which the public hearing is held; provided, however, that disposition shall be made of the matter within 40 days of the date of the public hearing.
